Phishing (E-mail login) (2022-11-04)

Overview

Threat actors trying to collect e-mail login credentials

Explanation

In this phishing attempt an e-mail with a link to a non-existing PDF file, supposedly containing a transcript of an audio message, is used to lure a potential victim into entering e-mail login credentials.

After landing in the first phishing page, there are two fake Microsoft login possibilities - Outlook and Office365. There is a third fake e-mail login button, which is generically identifiable with any type of e-mail service.

When login credentials are entered, an error shows up and no further action is taken. No PDF file is ever downloaded.

Prevention

If you are uncertain about the authenticity of an email, do not hesitate to contact the entity that seems to have sent you the email using a safe communication manner, using the phone for example (no phone number from the untrusted email must be used in order to verify the authenticity).
If you are working for the Luxembourgish government or are using any of the GOVCERT.LU services, it is important to forward phishing emails to us (using Reporting an incident or the Outlook button). This will allow us to take down phishing websites and protect members of our constituency.
